Rancho Santa Fe, known by the locals as "The Ranch", is located in the northern San Diego area just south of Escondido. Its original planned community is referred to as "the Covenant". This little area is mostly residential single family homes situated on primarily 1-3 acre parcels. In 1989, "the Covenant" became a California Historical Landmark. This community consists of wealthy country estates and is home to the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe. Also within this small community is a central village, where there are small businesses and shops. Residents of this small community enjoy the quite ambiance of their small town.
The Rancho Santa Fe School District contains 1 public elementary and middle school (K through 8), 1 private elementary school and two other private schools. Many schools are located in areas within neighboring community school districts.
Rancho Santa Fe is located near multiple attractions including Sea World San Diego, Lego Land California, the Carlsbad Outlet Mall, the San Diego Wild Animal Park, and many beaches.
